We pull raw scores from Google, TripAdvisor and Booking.com, normalize them to the same scale, and produce two proprietary signals — a Trust Rating and a Current Pulse.

Step by step

  1. Sync reviews from all 3 platforms — We connect to Google, TripAdvisor and Booking.com and pull the latest review scores and counts for every GCC property.
  2. Normalize all scores to 0–100 — Google uses a 5-star scale, Booking.com a 10-point scale, TripAdvisor 5 bubbles — we convert all of them to the same 0–100 baseline.
  3. Calculate Trust Rating — volume-weighted average — We multiply each normalised score by its review count, sum them, then divide by the total review count.
  4. Calculate Current Pulse — last 10 reviews only — We look at the 10 most recent reviews across all platforms, each classified as Positive, Neutral, or Negative.
  5. Detect the gap — the most powerful signal — The difference between Trust Rating and Current Pulse tells you whether a property is improving, stable, or quietly declining.

Why do you use 3 platforms instead of just Google?

Each platform attracts a different type of guest with different expectations. Google captures everyday travellers. TripAdvisor captures experience-focused tourists. Booking.com captures guests who prioritize value. A hotel that scores 4.8 on Google but 7.2 on Booking.com is telling you something important about who is and isn't satisfied — and that nuance disappears when you only look at one platform.

How often does the data update?

We sync each platform on its own rolling schedule — typically every few days, with lower-volume sources refreshed less frequently. For luxury 5-star properties, review velocity is naturally slower — scores built on thousands of reviews don't shift meaningfully day to day. We've calibrated our sync cadence to match actual review velocity in the GCC luxury market. Actual timing may vary based on platform rate limits.

Can a hotel pay to improve their Trust Rating?

No. The Trust Rating and Current Pulse are calculated algorithmically from publicly available review data. ReviewsMerger does not offer paid placement or score manipulation. Our value to travellers depends entirely on the independence and integrity of the scores — that independence is protected above all else.

What does the Current Pulse tell me that the Trust Rating doesn't?

The Trust Rating reflects years of accumulated reputation — it's slow to move by design. The Current Pulse reacts within days to quality shifts. If a hotel's chef just changed, or they're understaffed this month, or a renovation disrupted guest experience — the Pulse catches it before the Trust Rating does. Booking a hotel with a high Trust Rating but a low Current Pulse means you're booking based on last year's experience, not last week's.
